The Fires Within
Acrylic on canvas,190x160
2019
Blue winds of yellow fire
Douse ambition.
Sleeping in long grass:
Rapid moving eyes
Purvey the landscapes.
Turning, emerging
To the shackled flesh
And its desires.
Oh, to swim free
In the boundless seas.
Goals and motives
Around my neck.
And voices, messages
Plead “This! That!”.
Failure leaves its injuries:
Unachievement
And demotivation
From mismatched goals
And scornful words
Internalised.
Those voices of others
That have become me.
Blue winds of yellow fire
Cauterise them,
Excised from me,
My self-esteem unleashed
Barks excitedly,
I may grow towards that light.
I may grow.
I may take this self
And extend it.
Those constraints.
Root-bound
I lie,
Replanted,
Rooted,
In this wide field
With blue winds of yellow fire.
